Dinner at Lola 41. All the waitresses dress as Santa, its decked out in decorations, christmas music is cranking, get your nosh on in a cozy and christmasy scene, nothing better.

Watch Santa come to town Mr and Mrs clause arrive on Saturday via Coast Guard vessel. The whole town “strolls” down main street to straight wharf and are lead by the town crier (some old school thing only Tucket does) who rings a bell. Once in a lifetime experience. Then santa gets in a carriage and rides around town. If you’re a seasoned veteran on this whole scenario, you know the drill. First person to post a photo with Santa on our Facebook walls gets a christmas present from us!

Main street retail therapy. Strolling around town is where its at on Saturday after Santa’s arrival.  Going from shop to shop and drinking cider it doesn’t get much better. Great sales, everyone’s doors are open and the shops are offering free cider and cookies.  This year theres going to be a Christmas market Saturday on straight wharf from 10 – 3pm. Hit it up!

Toasty clam chowder and spiked christmas drinks at Captain Tobey’s mid-day to recharge the batteries. One of the only restaurants in town open during the day… great place to warm up, kick back, and chat with friends about last nights shenanigans.

Nights at the Box. It’s Savage time at the Box! Everyone is dressed in their best red and greens and christmas tree printed pants so you better be rocking yours. Post dinner- you know where to head. Dancing, drinks and well, you know the deal. This year a summer favorite will be ringing in the tunes – the savage brothers.  All the reasons we love the box in the summer, but a more intimate feel.  From Tucket to you… Merry BOXMAS

While Fall may seem foreign to us – we know, without a doubt, that this past summer on ACK, has been the best one yet. Let’s bring ourselves back a few months…

May-Figawi is what brought the majority of us summer bums to the island and it’s Figawi that we are forever grateful for and will remain loyal to. Yes, it may seem like a giant party, and well, we sure did party hard. Figawi is however a very special weekend, one that does indeed entail and host one of the islands most renowned sailboat races. More than an infamous sailboat race though, Figawi has become a landmark weekend in casting what we like to call the “Tucket Spell”. What is the “Tucket Spell” you ask? It’s doing exactly what the Island Company preaches “quit your job (or graduate college), buy a ticket, get a tan, fall in love, and never return.”

Some Tucketer’s arrive on island for Figawi weekend and end up staying for weeks. Some come and end up staying for the whole summer and there is even those special some who come for the weekend and stay forever!

June - everyone falls in love with Nantucket in June. It’s quiet, the weather is just starting to pick up and everyone’s spirits are high. We, Tucket and Crew, started our Firefly Concert Series in June and had an incredible time kicking it off! Also, we celebrated International Surfing Day with Surfrider Foundation and handed out awesome surf goodies such as DVD’s, T-shirt’s, sunglasses at more at one of our favorite beaches – Cisco Beach.

July-hmmmm does our favorite holiday of the year ring a bell? THE FOURTH OFJULY!! We hosted one of the biggest parties of the season here on island at Nobadeer beach. Not only was the island packed with party goers for the big day but it was jammed ALL weekend! From music at The Box, to bar theme-parties, to restaurant specials – we took ACK by storm in celebrating America’s big weekend. Throughout the month Tucket continued to host Firefly sponsored shows at the Box and partook in many rewarding day time activities like beach clean-ups at Cisco Beach. To us, here on Tucket, July MEANS summer. We soaked up the sun and…. became regulars at the “Swarf”.

August- although it crept up on us fast, it brought us perfect beach weather and many more parties to attend. We hosted our last Firefly Vodka extravaganza at the Box and jammed out to our boy Collie Buddz as well. This month also brought us The Opera House Cup and we were lucky enough to attend a few of the famous sailboat regattas after parties and venues. Perhaps the most infamous of these venues was The Shipwreck ball which is annually hosted at The Nantucket Yacht Club. We came dressed as our favorite “underwater sea creature” and danced the night away under a blanket of gorgeous Nantucket stars.

While most are headed back to school or back to a working reality off island it’s important to remember what an incredible and special summer we all had. We have our precious island Nantucket to thank, and our memories will help carry us through the year. Hold Nantucket Summer 2011 dear to your heart and remember the good times because summer 2012 is about to get a whooooooole lot better!

BOX Happenings

9/2 – 9/3 – 9/4

Straight from Boston Spooky Daly Pride delivers a super high energy, “hip hop-infused roots rock”, with deep soulful grooves and catchy, hookfilled songs. “Their uplifting, ever-evolving live show is laced with fearless improvisation and madcap hijinks”. Its safe to say they are quite original – not to be missed.

Let’s be real.  Nantucket is a very special place – with a ton of stuff to do. But when you hit a combo that really works – you tend to find yourself repeating that combo over and over and over again.  This weekend we’re bringing one of our fav combos….Bartlett’s – Beach – Box.  A dependable sequence – anyone would argue. Commit that to memory and get eatin’, tannin’ and dancin’ ….the end of summer is right around the corner and we don’t want you to miss out on one moment.

You all know what to do at this gem – get at it.  Fall produce is just starting to come around but until then, jump on the peaches and berries – for homemade cocktails or the perfect beach snack.  We recommend stocking up here and planning a picnic to bring to your fav beach. These healthy eats will allow you an extra hour of fun in the sun ….trust us….chow down.  And, we hear the cranberries are about to make there way to the shelves – maybe make a homemade custom beach cocktail with all those fresh berries – of course with some Triple Eight Cranberry Vodka. Mom would be proud – cranberries are good for you!?!?!?!

Beach – you choose…can you really go wrong?

We are betting against the weather man this weekend. He says thunderstorms and rain – betting on him is a loosing battle.  He’s never right and are prepared to prove it.  This weekend will be perfect – just keep saying that to yourself.  We are. So choose your favorite beach and don’t move – when November rolls around you’ll be remembering these last days of summer vividly and wish that you would have gone out one last day to your go-to beach spot – these are the days Tucketers to remember – don’t waste them. Get up and go.

Start your weekend off right by bicycling to the Nantucket Bake Shop!  Stock up on some Portuguese Bread, a couple cake balls, and at least a few other tasty treats to satisfy any forthcoming cravings.

Some stone benches on Washington Street are calling our name!  Settle down with a good book and appreciate an amazing view of the harbor

After a late lunch at Arnos (the Truffle Honey Fried Chicken is ACKtually amazing), check out the Cavalier Gallery across the way.  The place is packed with way cool art and features lots of our favorite local artists.

Some surfcasting at Dionis sounds like an ideal way to spend the early evening…hopefully Lady Luck will send some Bluefish your way!

Definitely do Straight Wharf for dinner, definitely sit outside (taquitos to start, some skirt steak to finish!).  Be sure to stick around afterwards for an Angry Pickle!

Saturday

After an awesome time surfcasting last night, make the most of your morning by heading back to Dionis and helping the ACK Clean Team keep things tidy (meet at 8AM outside Grand Union)

A sandcastle sculpting competition is happening at Jetties Beach!  Swing by sometime between 12 and 5PM to see some creative construction…be sure to bring some snacks for the competitors, maybe some Missy’s Mini Desserts!

Nantucket By Nature

Need to be reminded of just how lucky we are to spend time here? Nantucket by Nature is showing at the Starlight from 12-1PM…trust us, it’ll put a pep in your step and amplify your pride for this place some call paradise

Rise and shine!  Head to the harbor or the beach at Brant Point to watch the Rainbow Fleet (nice video from our friends at  Plum) at 9AM…well worth waking up early.

Should skateboarding memories and Blink 182 bring you back to your teenage years, be at Backus Lane at 3PM for a free skateboarding demonstration and workshop.

Acquire an appetite by climbing to the top of the Congregational Church! Afterwards, an evening at American Seasons (just steps away) sounds just about perfect

Refreshment required! Treat yourself to some lemonade and some lounging, conveniently just footsteps away from where you were just servin’ and slicin’.

Speaking of slices, swing by Sophie Ts for dinner (sitting outside on the picnic bench-on your left after you exit from the parking lot side, look for the lion statue-sounds just about perfect).

Definitely do drinks at Pazzo to wash it all down, and definitely appreciate how wonderful Wednesdays can be.

To start your day off we recommend an iced coffee and breakfast sandwich from the Green.

If you are planning a day at the beach pack up some sandwiches and refreshments from Fresh and strap those surfboards to your roof because afternoon’s waves are expected to be 3ft and glassy. With the end of another incredible weekend coming to a close, we figure there’s no better way to begin the week than by going out for a hearty, delicious breakfast. We recommend you try brunch at The Straight Wharf in town for a change of scenery and for a change of pace. Avoiding the usual Downyflake breakfast crowd will be very relaxing, especially if it’s raining like the forecast predicts.

-       Digest after breakfast by walking the streets of town and checking out some unique and cool new shops in town such as The Sail Loft on Water Street. One of a kind, trendy, Nantucket gear is sure to be found!

-Purchase the DVD Nantucket by Nature and curl up inside for the rest of the afternoon to watch some incredible footage of this beautiful island we like to call home.

-If you’re feeling rambunctious after your relaxing day in town and at home get your drink on at The Brotherhood’s upstairs bar and as always hit the Box for DJ vs DJ !!!

The weekend has arrived and we could NOT be more excited! Not only is the weather perfect but a special celebration on island begins today, Autism Awareness Week. From today until next Saturday August 20^th, restaurants, bakeries and cafes around island will be partnering with Autism Speaks to help raise awareness of autism on Nantucket. So if you’re looking for a place to dine or drink this weekend, we suggest doing so at a participating “Light It Up Blue” spot!

There’s nothing we love more on this island than giving back, and autism awareness is the best reason to begin your night at Galley Beach. The Galley will be serving up a special blue drink and will include donation cards in each of their checkbooks. Their entire staff will be decked out in blue and wearing Autism Speaks pins.

56 Union will not only be serving up blue drinks, but they’re turning the whole place blue with special blue lights for the week! Giving back doesn’t stop there, you can enjoy dessert this week guilt-free at The Juice Bar or Petticoat Row Bakery. The Juice Bar will be promoting a special blue colored ice cream and the bakery has created a special Autism Speaks cookie cut out! You’ll see us there at least once a day..

Make Sunday Funday extra fun – throw a few back while giving back at Cisco Brewers! They will be featuring a special blue drink that we hope includes their Triple 8 Blueberry Vodka! We’re so excited to see Tucket become blue and we hope you’ll join us to raise Autism awareness.
